Many of our Brother Knights have been wondering about the wherabouts and health of our Brother John Peel. Following is a message just received from John.

Brother Knights,

I thank you for the cards you have sent regarding my wife and my health. I have been in Illinois for the past few months going through surgery due to an infection in my Right knee. I had surgery in May of 2007 and had my knee replaced. All seemed well until February when I noticed pain in the right leg. I took my wife to the Philippines for two months as the doctor stated my problem was only some blood that built up in the knee area. He told me it would be healed in two weeks. Unfortunately he was wrong and I had infection in the knee that was not detected by blood and other tests.

When I returned to the states I went to the surgeon again and X-Rays exibited a broken upper leg bone where the upper replacement section was anchored to the bone. The upper bone cracked and a portion of the bone had broken away and allowed the metal piece anchored in that bone to cock to one side. This caused a great deal of pain.

I have since been through one surgery to remove the knee joint which was replaced by a cement grid or spacer. I am undergoing antibiotic tratments to rid myself of the infection. I will have another surgery when my body is rid if the infection and have a new knee joint inplanted. I pray that it works this time.

My wife Ceferina, is doing well and enjoys seeing all our children and grandchildren as we reside at my oldest daughter's home in Zion IL.

That is about all the news from us. God Bless You All!

It has been several weeks since Marion's last chemo treatment. She still has occasional nausea and vomiting but it is rare. Each day her appetite increases and she seems like her energy level has also increased. She has been having some pain in the neck & shoulder area for the past month or so. She had a cat scan done and today Dr. Smith examined her. She has several enlarged lymph nodes in this area and he believes that they are probably cancerous but recommended a biopsy to be sure. If it is, he's suggesting possibly another type of chemo, maybe more radiation or taking part in Clinical Trials. He also suggested he would talk with Dr. Alan Sandler (Vanderbilt - Ingram Cancer Center) who could talk to Dr. Roy Herbst (MD Anderson - Houston) to see what their recommendations might be or what clinical trials might be available for her. She will be having the biopsy preformed next Wed. and then we will meet with Dr. Smith on Friday, May 30th to go over the results.

This Friday, Marion & I will be heading for Memphis, TN. Chris, our 11 year old grandson will be in a baseball tournament there on Saturday & Sunday. Chris pitches and plays shortstop for one of the Bowling Green Bearcats traveling team. On Sunday evening we will be attending a Memphis Redbirds' game. We will be returning on Monday.

Again, please keep her in your prayers.

Thanks,
